Keeldeep Associates Ltd has published new research on board evaluation. I interviewed the chairmen of 30 FTSE350 companies and found evaluation is alive and well, with a genuine desire to improve. But not enough directors receive candid feedback on their board behaviour. Too few use board evaluation to drive a performance culture throughout their companies. As expected, the chairman’s engagement is vital to avoid box-ticking. Business fundamentals haven’t changed since 2008/9; it’s just become harder to get away with running a company with a dysfunctional board.
