All change in the interim world

Well, it’s the end of my first full year back in the interim management industry following a year off on maternity leave…and a lot has changed!

We have a new brand (everyone loves ‘the dog’!), a new team, a challenging economic climate and new challenges in an ever increasingly competitive market – but one thing hasn’t changed, the standard and quality of the senior interim executives in the market – they remain as impressive as always.

Coming back in to the market having had a year off, it has been so rewarding professionally to get closer to the interim community and to continue building such good and positive relationships with our senior interim executives. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting hundreds of interims this year, and in this climate I think it is more important than ever to make time to know the interim executives you are working with.

I know that many interims find it frustrating when interim providers don’t keep them updated about roles or give them information about assignments, but when you know your interims as well as we do, communicating effectively is second nature and makes the assignment process more streamlined, (and pleasant!) for everyone involved.

This year has had its frustrations but also immense joys. The Olympics was a double-edged sword with the whole country united and proud of the amazing achievements of our great Olympians, but with that came the quietest August for most in the industry. Happily, the market really picked up post The Games, and clients realised that it was business as usual.

One thing that has been really noticeable at Hemming Robeson, is the roles we have worked on. They have really shifted from being purely functional to being more leadership and change related. It seems that the use of interims at the level we operate at is being recognised as adding real value to helping companies achieve strategic goals and aims in a very difficult market.

Hemming Robeson continues to go from strength to strength as our brand gains more recognition with clients, and also with our greatest ambassadors; the interim executives we work with.

We have had a fantastic response from our clients, who have said how impressed they are with our new model and refreshing approach to interim management. They have really valued being able to view shortlisted candidates who are psychometrically profiled, endorsed by previous clients, videoed and have a full on-line profile which makes reviewing interims against a brief a much clearer and quicker process.

With only 20 days left until Christmas (yes really!) we can look forward to watching a few more green shoots appearing across many more sectors, but I am sure it will be another year of hard work and focus…but after a year on maternity leave with a new born baby…that will be a breeze!
