Interim Management Event – New Year’s (Board) Resolutions

Well Hemming Robeson started the new year positively with an event hosted by Withers surrounding the key issues interim executives should consider from a legal standpoint when they join an organisation on an independent basis.

Our interim management professionals were out in force and almost 50 of our most senior executives supported this masterclass at the Old Bailey in the heart of London.

The first speaker covered Director’s duties and the key elements to consider when appointed as a Director or Shadow Director of a business. He went on to review liabilities an Interim Executive may find themselves responsible for in organisations facing issues such as insolvency which is so often the case when interim management executives are brought in to troubled businesses. 


We then had an overview of tax planning which has had significant amounts of publicity recently and considered reputation when planning tax affairs for businesses and individuals – and of course a review of IR35 which is clearly something interims are very aware of.

We were treated to a masterclass in indemnities and D&O insurance which certainly enlightened some of our interim community – particularly the Finance Directors and made them aware of key issues to consider for their next assignment.

Finally, Withers reviewed Operational Employment Issues which was a reminder for most of the Interim HR Directors attending (the nodding heads attested to that) and a review for the rest of us. It was a clear reminder that there are different strategies to be adopted when handling people related issues in-house.

We rounded the evening off with drinks and networking which was a good chance for us to catch up with our interim executives and the feedback was so positive that we were awash with good wishes and the over-riding feedback was that our interims really enjoyed being part of our executive group and valued networking with other senior executives across functions.

A huge thank you to Withers for hosting the event for us and they delivered what could have been a dry subject with good pace and great humour making the evening enjoyable, worthwhile and at times extremely entertaining!
